From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
Professional, courteous, helpful and compassionate. You couldn't ask for anymore during the loss of a family member.
Regards
Ray
Our family used Johnsons for my late Grandfather, from start to finish every aspect of my Grandfather's funeral was meticulously planned with care, compassion and a great deal of empathy.
These are some of the most difficult moments in anyones lives and you can often feel overwhelmed by the decision making process especially given the countless options we have to choose from, yet Richy (Richard Scott) put us all at ease and made the difficult task of quite a big family coming together to make these decisions, effortless.
The service itself was impeccable, its of great relief to know my Grandfather was cared for and respected throughout and that he got the send-off he so deserved. I couldn't recommend Richy or Johnsons enough.
Thank you so much to all the team, including Claire for making sure my Grumps looked impeccable for his final journey, but especially Richy. You done us proud.
During the pandemic Johnson’s handlers funerals very poorly compared to other funeral directors and as you only have one funeral, I cannot forgive them, despite the fact my father didn’t pass away from covid and didn’t have covid they said they wouldn’t embalm him (other funeral directors were embalming at this time it wasn’t a law or a rule/restriction at the time, it was a choice) We were also told we could only have ONE visit during his 2 weeks at the chapel of rest as they would only open the coffin once, they made us sign a disclaimer to say that we accept ‘the body’ would be basically in a very bad way due to not being embalmed and that they wouldn’t dress him because they wouldn’t touch him etc, we were told quite clearly that seeing ‘the body’ would be very unpleasant to see etc they basically tried to talk us out of seeing him and the whole family said they didn’t want to see him (imaging how bad he may look etc) except me and my husband, we went and he looked NO different to someone who had been embalmed! They also HAD dressed him (laid his shift and tie over him but tucked it all in etc) and he looked so beautiful and peaceful there was NO right or reason for this company to behave the way they did during such a difficult time. They stole the time me and my family could and would of had with my dad during his time in their chapel of rest and I will never ever forgive them for this.
I would like to say the service I received from John and all his work colleagues was impeccable from the care of my mam from the start to the end they really did look after everything, kept me updated with everything and on the day of the funeral it all went along perfectly I would recommend them to anyone at this sad and difficult time they were someone I could rely on
Thank you so much for this lovely review which means all the more at this very challenging time. The team are working very hard to ensure that each family receives outstanding care and I am so glad their dedication has given you the service you needed.
From our initial meeting our contact John, helped and advised us through the whole process with advert in the Gazette, wreaths and flowers and arranged for Graeme who would conduct a Celebrant Service to come to our house to gather information about my brothers life.
On the day of the funeral everything went smoothly and John and Graeme were very attentive, we cannot thank them enough.
I am glad we were able to provide you with the support and guidance needed. It means a great deal when people take the time to share their experience and to highlight individuals in the team who have made a difference. Our quality of care is something we are proud of and we know what a difference it makes to the families in their time of need.
